Measles Vaccine
Recent cases of measles have been identified in the City of Chicago. Measles can be prevented with measles-containing vaccine, which is primarily administered as the combination measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine. The combination measles-mumps-rubella-varicella (MMRV) vaccine can be used for children aged 12 months through 12 years for protection against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella.
One dose of MMR vaccine is approximately 93% effective at preventing measles; two doses are approximately 97% effective. Children who have not yet received any doses of the MMR vaccine are the top priority to receive outreach and education. Children who have only received one dose could be recalled in the appropriate timeframe to ensure the second dose is administered in a timely manner. CountyCare can provide available care gaps detail for the MMR vaccine for children turning two years of age in 2024, as requested. To request care gaps detail, please reach out to countycarequalityofcare@cookcountyhealth.org.
Additional information can be found on the CDC Website, in the Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH) press release, and on the CCDPH Measles Fact Sheet.
Flu
CountyCare recognizes the importance of flu vaccination to keep communities healthy. The flu vaccine is the best tool we have to protect children, especially those with special health care needs. Children aged 6 months to 5 years old, even those who are healthy, may be at higher risk of serious flu complications. Healthcare providers play a critical role in a patient’s decision to receive the flu vaccine; provider outreach and education is impactful in helping patients understand the importance of this annual vaccine. CountyCare has data on current flu care gaps for young children (< 2 year of age) who may have not received any doses or only one dose. To request flu vaccine care gaps detail, please reach out to countycarequalityofcare@cookcountyhealth.org.
