What is the flu?

  • Flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and sometimes the lungs, which can affect people at any age.

Who should get the flu vaccine?

  • The flu vaccine is available to all persons, 6 months or older.

How often should you get the flu vaccine?

  • The most effective method to prevent flu is to get a flu vaccine each year – during flu season from October through May.

Where to get your annual flu shot?

  • CountyCare members can visit their primary care provider, pediatrician or in-network pharmacy to receive their flu shot.

Can I earn Visa cash rewards for getting my annual flu shot?

  • CountyCare members 6 to 24 months can receive $75. Members 2 years and older can receive $25.

What is COVID-19?

  • COVID-19 is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus and is spread by droplets containing the virus. Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, and respiratory symptoms.

Who can get the COVID-19 vaccine?

  • COVID-19 vaccines are now available for ages 6 months and older. A parent or guardian must be present for children under 18.

How often should you get the COVID-19 vaccine?

  • Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends everyone aged 5 and older should get 1 dose of an updated COVID-19 vaccine to protect against serious illness from COVID-19.

  • CountyCare members can visit their primary care provider, pediatrician or in-network pharmacy to receive their COVID-19 vaccine.

What is Human Papillomavirus (HPV)?

  • HPV is a common virus that can cause cancers later in life. HPV is spread through intimate skin-to-skin contact.

Who should get the HPV Vaccine?

  • Everyone between the ages of 9 and 45

How often should you get the HPV vaccine?

  • CDC recommends 2 doses of HPV vaccine at ages 11–12 years. HPV vaccination can be started at age 9 years.

Can I earn Visa cash rewards for getting my HPV vaccine?

  • CountyCare members can earn $25 for the first dose and $50 for the second dose.

What is Measles?

  • Measles is an extremely infectious respiratory disease and can be spread in situations where unvaccinated persons are in close quarters. Symptoms start with cough, fever and then a skin rash shows up. Measles has been identified in the City of Chicago.

When should you get the HPV vaccine?

  • The CDC recommends two doses of the MMR vaccine are recommended by doctors as the best way to protect against measles, mumps, and rubella. The first dose is recommended before 15-month-olds.

What are childhood immunizations?

  • Routine childhood immunizations and well child visits are key to a healthy lifestyle. Childhood immunizations include Hepatitis B, Rotavirus, Diphtheria, tetanus, and acellular pertussis, Haemophilus influenzae type b, Pneumococcal conjugate, Inactivated poliovirus, Measles, mumps, rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis A.

  • Vaccines can be administered from birth to 2 years old. Schedule an appointment with your child’s primary care provider (PCP) for immunizations and school physicals.
